Learning outcomes:
To develop the ability to select and implement up-to-date construction solutions and technologies that are appropriate to the proposed product design concept, taking into account materials, processes, and execution details.
To optimize technical solutions in relation to functionality, aesthetics, and economic feasibility, offering personalized guidance to students in the development of execution details and the related technical documentation.
To improve students’ critical analysis and reasoning skills regarding technological choices through group and individual feedback sessions where they justify their decisions to faculty members and invited professionals.
To build an interdisciplinary vision on the role of technology in product design within integrated design processes, in collaboration with engineers, installation specialists, and other consultants as an essential part of complex project development.
Content:
Examination of the proposed product design concept and evaluation of the integration of structural elements, materials, and technologies.
Adaptation of technological solutions to the functional, aesthetic, and structural requirements of the client.
Selection of Appropriate Materials and Construction Systems
Analysis of materials in terms of strength, durability, maintenance, and environmental impact.
Integration of Technical Installations into Product Design
Solutions for the discreet and efficient integration of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and lighting systems, without compromising aesthetic vision.
Development of technical details (joints, finishes, assembly solutions) for product design elements.
Methods of implementation and compatibility with current construction and manufacturing technologies.
Teaching Method:
a. Tutorial Meetings / Personalized Consultations:
Weekly sessions in the form of direct feedback on students’ diploma projects.
Individual analysis of each project and formulation of tailored solutions depending on the specific characteristics and stage of development.
b. Specialized Technical Assistance and Interdisciplinary Consultation:
Applied discussions on product design technology and installations, with a focus on sustainable and innovative solutions.
Technical guidance on materials, construction systems, and the integration of technology into the concept.
c. Thematic Meetings and Group Discussions:
Collective sessions on relevant topics (e.g., sustainability, resilience, accessibility, acoustics), depending on shared interests and group needs.
Exchange of ideas and experiences among peers based on progress in their individual projects.
Assessment:
a. Accuracy of technical drawings and execution details (20%)
Compliance with current standards and regulations.
Clarity and precision of the technical information presented in the final documentation.
b. Presence and consistent involvement in the working process and individual discussions (30%)
Responsiveness to technical recommendations.
Quality and correctness of the proposed technological solutions.
c. Coherence and justification of the constructive and technological solutions selected for the diploma project (20%)
Adherence to principles of sustainability, energy efficiency, and safety.
Integration of technical solutions within the overall project concept.
d. Ability to integrate technological details without affecting the aesthetic and functional coherence of the project. Quality of the final technical documentation (30%)
