The ability to represent graphically according to technical standards and norms.
Content:
Timber, as a building material. Characteristics and properties specific to wood and different essences. Quality standards and classes. Timber in the history of architecture. Timber in contemporary architecture. Parametric wooden architecture. Constructive wooden systems and subsystems. Design principles. Constructive systems of solid timber, composite, special structures. Bamboo as a building material – case studies from Asian architecture. Types of joints used: carpentry and engineering. Closures and partition walls, floors. Timber frames – historical and contemporary.
Steel in architecture – history and contemporary uses. Steel aesthetics – characteristics and particularities. Contemporary case studies: small and large buildings, urban planning. Other materials: Corten – case studies and types of use. Aluminum - case studies and types of use. Copper in architecture. Rolled steel Europrofiles and types of joints. Design principles. Lattice beams, Vierendeel beams. Closures and floors specific to steel structures. Frames and special structures.
Teaching Method:
Lectures supported by multimedia content. Design exercises. Exercises for assembling wooden and steel constructive elements using didactic material.
