Comunitatea academică a UAUIM a aflat cu tristețe că arhitecta și profesoara Karin Elke HOFERT FEIX, prietenă și oaspete în nenumărate rânduri a Universității noastre, ne-a părăsit în data de 27 noiembrie 2023, la vârsta de 67 de ani.
Absolventă a Escuela Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona de la Universitatea Politehnică din Catalonia în anul 1986, preda la aceeași școală din anul 1987, fiind din 1991 Profesor titular, iar din anul 2014 a fost profesor invitat permanent la Politecnico di Milano.
Între anii 2008-2014 a fost Prodecan pentru Relațiile Internaționale la ETSAB, prezența sa în această funcție fiind determinantă pentru reînnoirea relațiilor dintre această instituție spaniolă și universitatea noastră.
Invitată de peste zece ani în comisiile internaționale de diplomă de la UAUIM, ne-a fost și oaspete de onoare la conferința internațională ICAR2015.
Plină de vitalitate, de o inteligență vie și cu o deschidere și curiozitate deosebite, Karin i-a fermecat pe toți cei care au cunoscut-o. Am sărbătorit-o cu drag de ziua aniversară, atunci când aflându-se la București, la diplomele noastre, era departe de familia sa. A vizitat cu plăcere și alte locuri din țara noastră, fiind încântată de comorile sale arhitecturale.
Colegii din toată lumea pe care i-a cunoscut aici și-au exprimat regretul la aflarea tristei vești și vă împărtășim pe această cale câteva dintre gândurile lor, pe care le lăsăm în limba engleză, pentru a nu le lipsi de emoția mesajului original:
I still can't believe that all this accumulation of knowledge and experience, that rare combination of rigorous thinking and kindness expressed in so many fine observations of architecture and life, is now silenced.
The cerebral aneurysm that struck her, looks to me as an epitome of the Modern Movement itself, engulfed by a hemorrhage due to some weak spot somewhere in one of the uncountable arteries of the human brain. Apparently this happens sometimes, when time weakens our body until it is all gone... but our values can stay alive and passed onto future generations. In Bucharest Karin invested her energy wholeheartedly in architectural education and her investment will continue to keep alive our faith in the values we share... and this is how we shall always remember her.

Karin had an energy and vitality rarely found in any individual, and her presence was always welcome wherever she went; she brought insight, wit, compassion, and cleverness into every professional and personal situation. Karin represented the individual in an era where a forthright and informed view of things is not always favoured - but should always be treasured by those who know better. We had some very loving and heartfelt conversations with her both this summer and in times past, and always valued Karin's caring perspective and honesty.
We will truly miss her unique personality and commitment to architecture and life, and wish to extend our deepest condolences to her family and all her friends.
